Biography

DOCUS is a pop-electro-folk project formed in 2022 by two multi-instrumentalists and producers, Matthew Kerr from the UK and Matheus Lucena from Brazil. Now based in Barcelona, Spain, the pair blend English and Brazilian folk songwriting with synths, beats, and a love for sounds that feel both earthy and cosmic.

Their musical friendship started years earlier in Brazil after Matthew arrived on a music tour and decided to stay. Not long after, the two began writing together and eventually joined a larger band called The Skinnies, playing around the local scene with songs like “Bicicleta” and “A Pena e o Elefante.” Between couch-surfing, late-night recording sessions and plenty of experimenting, the partnership slowly grew into something deeper than just another band.

Years later they decided to take a leap and move the project to Spain. Matthew arrived first to set things up, with Matheus eventually leaving his studies behind to join him and fully commit to the adventure. That move became the beginning of DOCUS — a name inspired by their favourite prehistoric gentle giant, the Diplodocus — and the start of building their debut Album, INFINITE.

The music reflects that shared journey: two friends from opposite sides of the world writing songs somewhere between folk storytelling and the electronic footsteps of a gentle giant. Inspired by artists like Gregory Alan Isakov, Bruce Hornsby and Djavan, DOCUS mixes warm guitars and reflective lyrics with bass, synth textures and wide open atmospheres.

In 2024 the duo had one of those surreal early moments when things suddenly feel real: opening three arena shows for Maná, performing at Madrid’s WiZink Center and Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi. For a project that always imagined its songs echoing through big spaces, it felt like a glimpse of what is coming.

More recently, DOCUS composed the soundtrack for Sjaddo, a Swedish contemporary dance production telling the story of the Sámi people of northern Sweden and reflecting on our relationship with the planet and the wider universe we live in. The show will tour through 2026.

At its heart though, DOCUS is still just two brothers from different corners of the world who found each other through music and decided to keep following wherever that path leads. Somewhere between the studio, the stage, and the unknown ahead, they’re building something that feels less like a career plan and more like a lifelong adventure.

They are currently in their studio making album number 2 and prepping for this summer tour of Europe.
